The role will see you report directly into the Group Commercial Director and will see the successful candidate take full responsibility for P&L for the London and South East region covering projects in the rail, highways, energy and water sectors.
It is an exciting time to join this leading contractor who have an achievable growth target to double in size in the next 3 years meaning, that this position will develop into a Director level position in the future.
Requirements
Role Responsibilities:
Establish, guide, and enhance the commercial function to form a top-performing team
Assist the work-winning team by evaluating and recognizing risks and responsibilities in tender documents and contract terms
Create, refine, and execute commercial strategies to aid in work acquisition
Detect and control all commercial risks on both new and existing contracts
Take full responsibility for contract compliance and performance
Develop and apply all contract management procedures
Negotiate contract terms and handle all non-standard contractual matters
Collaborate with Sector Managers to ensure projects surpass commercial goals
Supervise the creation and delivery of precise Management Information
Work alongside the finance team to generate accurate forecasts
Line Management Duties:
Assess the skills of all department members to ensure appropriate training, qualifications, and conduct for their roles.
Responsible for establishing and maintaining a high-performing workforce within the discipline.
Ensure timely execution of key HR functions within the Commercial team, including annual salary and bonus evaluations, appraisals, talent and succession planning, etc.
Contribute to the design and development of training programs and employee skill enhancement activities
Ensure that mandatory e-learning modules and policy updates for oneself and direct reports are completed as required.
Candidate Specification:
Degree holder or equivalent in construction commercial management.
Professional affiliation with RICS, CIOB, or equivalent
Thorough knowledge and understanding of NEC contracts (all options)
Proven knowledge and understanding of Construction law and standard contract forms
Previous experience in a Senior Commercial Manager role
Demonstrated experience in client management
Demonstrated experience in negotiation
Knowledge of Engineering and client standards
Preferably previous experience with a Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor
Comprehensive understanding of financial management
Proficient in MS packages including Excel, Project, and Word
Strong organizational and leadership capabilities.
Meticulous attention to detail.
Outstanding communication and negotiation abilities
Collaborative mindset with both internal and external stakeholders.
Adaptable, proactive attitude in a dynamic environment with a hands-on approach.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills at a technical level.
Must have experience with claims and dispute resolution.
Must possess a solid understanding of UK law.
Must have strong presentation and Excel skills.
Ability to inspire others and provide training when necessary.

Salary ranging from £120,000 - £130,000
